TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR FOODWORKS SOFTWARE RUNNING
Click here to return to The Nutrition Company home page.
The Nutrition Company thanks you for being a loyal
user of the FoodWorks software and regrets any inconvenience the company's
closure may cause. However, your FoodWorks software can serve you well into
the future. Here are some things you can do to make this possible.

1. BE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP OF YOUR
INSTALLATION FILES
When you purchased FoodWorks, you received an email
containing a download link and detailed instructions about how to download,
install, and get started using FoodWorks. You should be sure to make a
backup of the file you downloaded (FW18download.EXE) and the instructions in
the email for installing FoodWorks. There is also a PDF attached to the
email with illustrated instructions. With backups of these items, you will
be able to install FoodWorks at any time in the future. You can make as many
backups as you wish on any media that is external to your computer, such as
a USB memory device or external hard drive.

2. BE SURE TO MAKE BACKUPS OF ANY FOODS YOU
ADDED TO YOUR USER DATABASE
To back up the foods you add to your user database, do
the following:
- On the File menu, choose "Export" and then
choose "Export user database to tab-delimited text file" from the sub-menu.
- In the Save dialog, choose a location to save
the backup file where it will be easy to find, such as on your computer
desktop. Give your file a name, or use the default name. Click the "Save"
button.
Your user-added foods are now saved in the file. In the
future, if you need to re-install FoodWorks or install it on a new computer,
you can use the file to easily restore your user-added foods by doing the
following:
- Copy the backup file you created above onto the
computer.
- Start FoodWorks.
- Click the File menu and then choose "Import".
- In the Import dialog, click the "Import file"
button.
- In the Open dialog, navigate to the backup file
and double-click it. The contents of your backup file will be imported into
the FoodWorks user database.
It is a very good practice to make a new backup file
every time you add new foods to your user database.

3. USE THE UNIVERSAL KEY CODE WHEN YOU SEE THE
REGISTRATION REMINDER WINDOW
If you make a new installation of FoodWorks, have to
re-install FoodWorks, or your software key is damaged or erased, you will
see the Registration Reminder window. When this happens, erase the number
you see in the box in that window and replace it with the number 8765309.
This is the universal key code you will use for all of your future
installations and registrations.

4. BE SURE YOU HAVE FULL RIGHTS ON YOUR
COMPUTER
(NOTE that this procedure ONLY needs to be used if you
are getting error messages while trying to register FoodWorks. On your
personal computer you should never need to use this procedure.)
You must have FULL rights (administrator rights) on
your computer to install and register FoodWorks. You must have FULL rights
in the application folder (normally C:\Program files (x86)\FWorks18) to run
FoodWorks successfully. See your IT representative if you see any error
messages (especially an error 75) when installing, registering, or running
FoodWorks. The following are indications that you do not have administrator
rights on your computer:
- The registration code number changes every time
you start FoodWorks.
- You get an error (usually an error 75) when you
enter a key code.
- You enter a key code and it appears to be
accepted, but the Registration Reminder window continues to appear each time
you start FoodWorks.
If any of the above are the case, you must get someone
who has full administrative rights on your computer to sign on and do the
following steps:
- Sign on as full administrator.
- Run FoodWorks and note the registration code
number in the box on the Registration Reminder window, then click OK and
exit from FoodWorks.
- Run FoodWorks again and make certain that the
registration code number has not changed.
- Replace the number in the box on the
Registration Reminder window with 8765309 and then click the OK button.
- Make sure that the end user has "full" rights
in the folder where the FoodWorks application is stored (normally C:\Program
Files\FWorks18).
Until the above steps have been completed, you may be
able to run FoodWorks with temporary administrator rights by right-clicking
the FoodWorks icon and then selecting "More" and then "Run as administrator"
from the pop-up menu.
IF YOU ARE STILL UNABFLE TO CLEAR THE REGISTRATION
REQUEST, DO THE FOLLOWING:
Navigate to the application folder (typically
C:\Program Files (x86)\Fworks18) and locate the file FWPATHS.FWD. This is a
text file. Open this file using the Windows program Notepad. The beginning
of the file will consist of four lines of text as follows:
default
default
default
D36
Double-click on the fourth line to highlight the
characters “D36” then enter the characters “NO” (capital N and capital O) in
their place so the file reads as follows:
default
default
default
NO
The fourth line MUST contain only the two letters with
no leading or trailing spaces. When this edit is completed, save the file
and exit from Notepad. Run FoodWorks again. You should NOT see the
“Registration Reminder” window.
